All About Air Pollution Control Systems

Such facts are a sign for industries to maintain and install robust air pollution control systems in their plants or facilities to reduce the risk of pollution hazards. These steps can help in bringing down the emission levels of perilous exhausts, reduce the free outflow of particulate and vaporous pollutants in the atmosphere. 

Elements of air pollution control system

Systems for controlling air pollution can be installed in multiple ways by different industries, as per their preference. Let us understand what elements does a commonly installed primary corrosion-resistant ventilation system comprises of the following:

Duct System


An arrangement to supply, return, and exhaust air to and from the facility. The duct system is made up of hoses and tubes only. They’re efficient in maintaining indoor air quality and also filter out most pollutants from the exhausts. It’s one of the most critical and conventional systems employed by industries and is available in a variety of materials. However, polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride are the most preferred ones, as they can withstand even the corrosive air streams.

Fume & exhaust hoods

To maintain higher indoor air quality, fume and indoor hoods are durable ventilation alternatives. Fume hoods help limit the amount of exposure the plant’s staff have to toxic gases, vapors, and chemical fumes. Whereas, exhaust hoods assists in capturing emitted toxins. They’re also mostly made up of polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride.

Exhaust blowers and fans


Plants aiming at eliminating harmful vapours, particulate matter, smoke, and unwanted odours tend to employ exhaust fans or blowers either on the roof or inside the industrial unit. These units ventilate horizontally or vertically by a direct-driven, belt-driven, or inline fan. The fans are made up of thermoplastic materials which are used in galvanizing and electroplating processes. 

Wet scrubbers
These scrubbers are utilized to clean the air emitting from the facility. They are large control units that are specifically employed for eradicating dangerous air pollutants. One of the most common types is wet-packed tower scrubber, which is used in industries to continuously re-circulate the scrubbing solution to shed odorous acids and vapours.

When installing an air pollution control system, you must initially assess the generation patterns of the dust and fumes of the plant. The majority of air pollutants can be eliminated by efficiently making a few tweaks to plant machinery. But, if the plant emits an immensely noxious gas, then proper care must be taken to effectively capture, extract, and dispose or recycle the air.
